well lets see, I've not updated in ages but thats cos' nothing at all has happened since my last update. I've moved back to Manchester. I've got all my shit in order to go back to university next week. I also intended to meet up with a lot more of the 'old beans'. But I failed in that cos' you've managed to spread yourselves all over the shop. So, for all those people that I've not seen in ages. Have a good one. Especially everyone who has now finished university and are busy getting jobs and such.
I'm thinking I might endeavor to take a year in industry next year, I should probably spend a bit of time at a work place and get the hang of all this being organised stuff. I'm probably going to need the practice. Plus I'd like some idea of the various different things I could go into and it would help to maybe have a look at the possibilities.
Ok, film reviews :P. Munich is very good. although, it seemed a bit long (that might ofcourse have been cos' I was watching it at 4am). Miami Vice was also very good, but not Micheal Mann's best. Snakes on a Plane was funny and entertaining but fairly simple. Oh, and prison break (which I've finally watched after Downloading it) is very good too.

Well I've not updated in an age. So I'll just sort of abreviate stuff. Typically my plans to go away for the summer fell through, although thats mostly cos' I left it too late and then got all wrapped up in exams and stuff that wouldn't have occupied my time in the same way if I'd been bothered to do some work in the first place. I did however manage to move house reasonably successfully and I'm now living in a room about two and a half times bigger than my old one. However, its currently being used as the living room as well on account of the living room being all shit up and my room being downstairs. Hopefully the landlord will have sorted stuff out by the time I get back. If not, I'll get onto him.
My younger sister got married on saturday. She certainly seemed to be happy about it, as did her new husband and my brother-in-law Phil. The whole day went well which was good. Although, I have to admit the Christian rock wasn't really my cup of tea. I am now back from Bath (where they got married) and I intend to get some sort of method of income.
oh, and I passed my first year of my course (last year was a foundation year). So its on to the second, when I actually get to do some Robotics.

Well, I finished the report on thermostat housings. Only to get given another one that on engine manufacture. Same amount of work, but I only got a week to do it in this time. According to the assignment sheet, its only sposed to take me 5 hours to compile the information. But frankly it'd take me more than that just to write 10 pages of complete crap, let alone a well structured report. However, it is almost finished now. I'm going to have to go talk to the guy about it tomorrow though.
I saw V for Vendetta on saturday, which I thought was very good. Hugo Weaving is quite impressive as the guy behind the mask.
On other things. I'll probably be back in suffolk around about the 31st-1st till about the 20th of april or so. I have no idea when I'll be back after exams though.

Apocalyptica - Hope .vol 2 |

Well I've just finished a very long day. It started yesterday morning. I've been writing a 10 page report of thermostat housings, and the manufacture of, for the last 30 hours. I'm still not going to have it in on time though which is pissing me off. I'm going to talk to the guy about the deadline date and hope shear audacity will get me through. I'm just going to tell him that Friday 12th of March (the date given on the assignment sheet) is in 2013 so I'm handing it in 7 years, minus 3 days, early. The only problem I see with it is if the guy doesn't have a sense of humour or I manage to fall flat on my face. I never was one for cheeking someone. I might have to hire Ellis to do it for me...
On other things. I've done nothing bar eat drink and generally be fairly merry. I've listened to some good tunes, and watched some good films, but nothing really new.

Well once again I've seen the need to update my journal. This is mostly cos' I'm awake insanely early and I have the house to myself, causing considerable boredom on my part. I'm dealing with the boredom by playing music real loud and pissing off the neighbours and reading the World of Warcraft forums (this game has pretty much consumed my life for the last year or so). My course is all going well. I have a load of work in this month though and I've done little to no work for most of it so far. But thats nothing new. On to more enjoyable things. My 21st birthday is on the 24th. So I'm thinking I might have to do something over easter at some point. Probably nothing huge, but certainly something celebratory.
Oh, and I've all but booked the tickets for a weeks holiday in Sardinia this summer. I'm just not sure when to go, which is why I've not done it yet.

Hate To Say I Told You So - The Hives |
] |
Well I know I've not updated in ages (6 months), but suffice to say everything is still good. I've passed all my exams that I've recieved results for, including a big fat 100% in CAD (my exams were all before christmas). Although I have a couple of tests over the next few weeks, I'm not particularly worried.
On a seperate note: word of the day. Defenestrate: to throw out of a window. (mythically named after a czech assassination method)
oh, and films.
King Kong was very good, although perhaps too many close-ups of a screaming Naomi Watts.
The Producers was quite funny but Uma Thurman pissed me off.
Collateral is also amazing. (I might have mentioned this before, but I got the DvD over christmas)
Lord of War is fantastic. (I know its a while ago, but it stuck in my mind as being a good film, also it possesses the quote "There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11?" )

Lets see here then. Not updated since like June.
time spent over the last month or so.
sleeping on sofa's:- about three night's worth. cleaning ovens:- say 6 hours (although we actually tag-teamed it for most of the day) cleaning fridge-freezers:- this is what I was doing when I wasn't cleaning the oven.
Once the moving house was done
time spent infront of telly:- too much to count. time spent on 'puter:- not as much as usual, on account of having no internets in the new house.
Well yes. I've moved house and all that shit. Basically we cleaned the old house and moved out on the 31st. Then there was some general crashing on the couch till the 1st. We went to have the look at the new house and promptly realised that the previous tenants had no idea what the word clean meant. They did however, know what a curry was. It took us about three days to get rid of the curry odour in the entire house. This is also when the fridge and half of the oven cleaning came in (the other half was the old oven). So Basically I got all settled in and headed back down this way. I shall be here mostly from now on (till the end of August). although, I'm going back to Manchester for this weekend.
Things I've watched on telly.
Brotherhood of the Wolf. This was actually really good. Not great, but definitely good. Although I would encourage you to watch it in french with the subtitles, as the dubbing really pissed me off a whole lot. The fight scenes were amazing, really well choreographed through-out. The plot was a bit odd. I was perhaps just not getting all of it (I only watched a small amount of it in french, before being forced by majority decision into dubbed).
Firefly. (the complete first series) This has to be one of the best things I've watched in a very long while. I usually only talk about films, but this kinda stood out as being very impressive. Basically, After finishing Buffy, Joss Whedon was told he still had a contract for one more series with Fox. They however didn't really mind what he did. So he made Firefly. Now I believe it was cancelled after the first series for no apparent reason. However, there's a film coming out in september some time.
So, I have to say that every single member of the cast were very well selected (unlike buffy the Vampire Slayer, which had some appalling acting at times). Special mention should be made of Adam Baldwin. (Apparently not one of the Baldwin brothers, Alec and co.) He's not greatly renowned for his acting ability (Universal Soldier 2, being an example of the 'epic classic's' he's been part of). However, he does do very well in this. Any hoo, my recommendation is that you should definitely watch this.
And finally, God of War on the good ole' PS2. The game rocked. It was blatantly a Devil May Cry clone. Hell it used a lot of the same concepts. It did do a few things differently though. I found the combat far more enjoyable than Devil May Cry, which had begun to get a little boring after the first almost identical plot-less sequel and is just taking the piss with the second sequel. A few things I did find a touch annoying was some of the puzzles within the game. I think its just my occasional lack of patience, but some of these really began to piss me off. However, all round the game was very good. With a suprisingly good story line (for a hack-and-slash computer game).

well once more nothing has really happened. The trip to Ipswich to see Batman was a bit of a non-event. By which I mean it was infact not an event. On account of not one single other son-of-a-bitch showing up. Which was understandably rather annoying, you lazy slags.
Any hoo, so I headed home and rented Layer Cake. Which was actually really good. I shall be in the park tomorrow. I shall also be bringing some beers with me. See you all then.

yeah, there was some stuff I did. But, thats reasonably unimportant. I've basically done nothing in the last few days. Which is probably why I'm updating so much more often now I have nothing to write about...
Although, I did recieve an invite to a club in London for Halloween. Apparently it a huge gathering, like 2500+ people all in an old church or some shit. Tempted with the picture I've got as an avatar for my costume. Its a picture of the Cro-Magnon girl (Daryl Hannah, played the woman with the eye patch in Kill Bill) in the film adaptation of the book Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel. Not sure about it though, as I'll have to dye my hair twice to get it to work. More specifically, I'd have to bleach it, dye it white and then dye it brown again after. As I'm not going to leave it to grow in with brown roots. Look fucking weird that. I'll change things though, probably only use that for the face, fuck dressing as a cave man. Modernise it maybe, rent a white suit, tie, all that jazz to go with it. Shoe's will be a bitch though. meah, I'll stop musing and get on with the now obligatory film review.
Secondhand Lions.
Didn't think this was going to be all that great to be honest. I saw the adverts in the cinema and I thought that maybe it would be worth watching if there was nothing else showing. However, it never really came to that. I finally saw it tonight though, on Sky. I have to say it was a good film. Obviously theres some good names there. Micheal Caine (morris micklewhite), Robert Duvall, Hally Lee Osmond or whatever his name is (the young boy). Any hoo, bloody good film. Some good acting through out. Had a good story, maybe less action packed than a lot of films but its more of a thinker than an action flick. Was very entertaining.

If anyone can't make that and wants to catch the film then give me a text or leave a comment or something and I'll juggle it a bit. I'm not doing anythintg at the mo. I shall be heading into Ipswich on thursday for some watching of the new Batman film. I was wondering if any of you nice people would be wanting to join me?
I was going to head into Ipswich today, however I ended having to spend time with the folks on account of not having seem them for ages. I did however get some new clothes out of it, which was good.
On other things. I've watched far too much TV over the last few days. I've watched like 3 films every evening. Including two spontaneous films that I didn't even know were on until the channel said "look here, this film you've been wanting to see for ages".
So, starting from the top.
Concise Film Reviews: By Jimmy.
Shooting Fish actually turned out to be quite good. And had possibly the prettiest woman in the history of british cinema in. Although the american guy seemed a bit odd.
Joan of Arc actually wasn't that bad, even though it had Milla Jovovich in it. Infact you could say she actually did very well, as did Dustin Hoffman for the brief part he played in it.
Finally, Elektra was a pile of wank. But I think we all knew that anyway.

Righty ho then. Well to start off I'm going to be in suffolk for the next ten days or so. So, if anyones up to anything give me a ring. I'll probably be in Ipswich on monday as planned.
I do need to head back up to manchester and move house eventually though. Looks like I've got to move out on the 31st but can't move into my new house till the 1st of July. could get interesting.
Not a lot has happened really since the Ygnwie concert. Basically, all I've done is eat and sleep. Although I did go and watch Sin City on tuesday. Have to say that film is great. A bit odd, but definately good. The plot was a little odd, in that it seemed to be a collection of short stories amalgamated into a film. The stories were a little brief, comic book style. I think the film would have perhaps benefitted from having one overriding plot rather than three seperate ones. Still the film was another "all about style" film and it did that well. Another film I'm probably going to have to watch is Mr and Mrs Smith. Mostly cos' it looks like a good no-brainer action flick and it has Angelina Jolie in it :). I'm also thinking about watching The Pacifier as it looks to be quite funny. Not sure about that though, might just have had all the funny parts in the advert.

Yngwie Malmsteen - I'm a Viking. |
] |
Right then. Just got back from a birthday thing at a friends house. Was actually kinda chilled, with hardly anyone getting real drunk at all. I basically just spent a whole load of time talking to a whole load of people I see all the time anyway.
However, Yesterday (on friday) I did possibly the most amazing thing ever! I went and saw Yngwie Malmsteen live! Now, I've ranted at great lengths to most people I know about this guys pure skill with a guitar. However, if your one of the few people not to have heard about him from me. Then I shall say this "the guy is one of the greatest guitarists in the world ever." Listen to his music.
Now, I knew he was touring, I found out about it in about March time but, he was only doing two gigs in England. One was down south somewhere and the other was in a Carling Apollo, now the only Carling Apollo I knew of was in Manchester. But it turns out he was actually going to be playing the one in Hammersmith (hole that it is). Now last weekend I got a text message from Guy saying that there'd been a change of venues and he was now playing The Academy in Manchester aswell. So, I booked me some tickets and went and watched Mr. Malmsteen rock. And he did, until the encore, when he exploded his Amps. He managed to blow 5 of the 8 Marshalls. However, I'm willing to forgive him that as it was the encore anyhoo, and the rest of the set was mint. Right down to when he pulled out a 1968 Strat and played some godlike cover of a work by Paganini (Nicolo, 19thC violinist). So, I shall say to you all if you get the chance to listen to some of his music then do so. You may not like the style, but I garuantee you will be impressed with the skill involved.
On other things I'm going to be heading back to suffolk some around Thursday (I think its the 9th). However, I won't be stopping long, as I need to be back in Manchester for the end of June as I've got to shift all my stuff from my current place of residence to my new one. I'm hoping I'll be able to get some car like assistance in this otherwise I'm going to end up walking through Rusholme with my T.V. and computer...

Animals - House of the Rising Sun |

Well lets see. I've done half of my exams now, with the last two this week. Got one in about 5 hours and the other is on thursday. The other two didn't really go as well as expected but I'm confident I did well enough to pass. The one this afternoon is looking a bit worrying though to be honest. I think the problem is my Computing lecturer left in Febuary and we've had three different replacements since March or so. Which means everything we've learn't since about that time has been really erratic. Unfortunately its also everything on the test today. Which sucks. Still, we shall see.
On other things. Star Wars 3 rocked. I have to admit I wasn't expecting a great deal from it. I was expecting it to follow in the vein of the other two and be basically worth watching and thats about it. However, while it was in many respects similar to the other two it was just a better film. I think one of the big things was the fact that the annoying kid that played Anakin had to be changed to allow for the character to grow up. With the replacement being suprisingly good. I do think the replacement guy could have done with a bit more training in the ole' lightsaber skills though. As the fights fall down a bit when compared to the ones at the end of the first episode. Hell, even Ewan McGregor isn't as good as he was in the earlier film. Still it was a good film. The ending was a bit bizaar though. They couldn't really help it on account of it being a prequel that ties in very closely with the original films. However I got the impression that the last half hour was very much spent tying up all the loose ends.
any hoo. Back to revision.

Lets see then. Basically I've done nothing in the last few days. I watched the third series of Red Dwarf on Saturday and I'm probably going to watch the fourth this coming weekend. Its this coming weekend is really annoying me, theres another really huge battle reinactment going on, but cos' of exams I've decided I'm not going. Despite this the entire of the rest of the house, barring Guy, have decided to go anyway. Ofcourse I didn't find out they were all going until it was too late to book myself in aswell. But, its probably for the best as this way I might actually be able to get some revision done. I've got a Maths exam tommorrow but thats all fine and dandy as I've already passed my maths module. I'm just planning on firming up my result. Infact the only exam I've got any worries about is the Electrical Science one on Thursday, but that should all be fine. I've put quite a bit of work into that now. Seeing as how this is probably my last chance to get anywhere regarding university and a degree. Any hoo. Have fun all.

hmm, lets see. Went to see Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on tuesday. Have to admit I thought it was good but I wasn't greatly impressed. The actors all seemed right though. Problem is that I think they tried to fit too much into 2 hours. Other than that I've been suffering with a monster cold. I spent about 12 hours asleep last night. Got some exams next week though. Thinking I should probably be doing a whole lot more work for them that I have. Fortunatly one of the exams is for a subject I've already passed, which is nice. still looking like I've got some work ahead when it comes to Electrical Science though. Any hoo, probably time to revise some more.
